CJ Seafood owner Craig Reaves said that he believes Donald Trump’s tariffs will provide “immediate relief’ to the shrimp industry.

Reaves said, “I’m a lifelong shrimper. My dad was a shrimper, so we’re generational fishermen, and we’ve been getting killed by imports for not just years, but literally decades.”

Fox Business reported:

A South Carolina shrimper told Fox News on Friday that President Donald Trump’s tariffs will provide “immediate relief” to a shrimp industry that has been “killed by imports” for decades.

CJ Seafood owner Craig Reaves told “America Reports” that so much of the industry is being outsourced to Southeast Asia, Ecuador, India and South America, while the U.S. fishery has been “crushed.”

“I’m a lifelong shrimper. My dad was a shrimper, so we’re generational fishermen, and we’ve been getting killed by imports for not just years, but literally decades,” Reaves said. “So, we’ve been suffering for a long, long time, and these tariffs, we believe, are going to give us some immediate relief. Also, it’s bringing attention to our industry, who is dying. We’ve outsourced our whole industry. Ninety-four percent of the shrimp consumed in the United States is imported.”

China imposed a 34% tariff on the US in retaliation.

AP reported:

China announced Friday that it will impose a 34% tax on all U.S. imports next week, part of a flurry of retaliatory measures to U.S. President Donald Trump’s new tariffs that delivered the strongest response yet from Beijing to the American leader’s trade war.

The tariffs taking effect Thursday match the rate that Trump this week ordered imposed on Chinese products flowing into the United States. In February and March, Trump slapped two rounds of 10% tariffs on Chinese goods, citing allegations of Beijing’s role in the fentanyl crisis.

According to CNN, the ruling “lets Trump invoke the 1798 law to speed removals while litigation over the act’s use plays out in lower courts.”

The Supreme Court on Monday allowed President Donald Trump to enforce the Alien Enemies Act for now, handing the White House a significant victory that will let immigration officials rely on a sweeping wartime authority to rapidly deport alleged gang members.

The unsigned decision in the case, the most closely watched emergency appeal pending at the Supreme Court, lets Trump invoke the 1798 law to speed removals while litigation over the act’s use plays out in lower courts. The court stressed that people deported going forward should receive notice they are subject to the act and an opportunity to have their removal reviewed.

The court’s three liberal justices dissented from the decision, and Justice Amy Coney Barrett, a member of the court’s conservative wing, partially dissented.

Donald Trump celebrated the ruling, saying it was “A GREAT DAY FOR JUSTICE IN AMERICA!”

Jerome Powell said the Fed will wait for more clarity before making monetary changes on Friday.

He said, “We’re well positioned to wait for greater clarity before considering any adjustments to our policy stance. It is too soon to say what will be the appropriate path for monetary policy.”

Chuck Schumer might be in trouble.

According to a new poll from Data for Progress, he is trailing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez by double digits in the 2028 Democrat Senate Primary.

The Daily Mail reported:

The poll found of the 770 likely Democratic voters that 55 percent of voters would support Ocasio-Cortez, 35, in a head-to-head match up in the 2028 New York primary.

Schumer, meanwhile, received a paltry 36 percent. Nine percent were undecided.

The young progressive also raked in a much higher favorability rating, according to the poll.

AOC received a net +59 favorability while Schumer registered a +26 favorability rating.

The poll shows Schumer losing support even among Democrats.

Politico reported: 

The poll is the latest sign that Schumer’s standing among the Democratic base has taken a hit since he voted to advance a GOP funding bill last month that avoided a government shutdown. The fact that Data for Progress conducted and released the poll also underscores that liberal organizations are continuing to look for ways to prod Schumer to take a tougher stance against President Donald Trump.

“This poll really does show that Democrats are united in just wanting to stand up, wanting to fight, wanting to see someone taking a stand for them,” said Danielle Deiseroth, executive director of Data for Progress.

Deiseroth added that her firm “has a long tradition of wanting to challenge the status quo of Democratic Party leadership” and released polling in 2021 showing then-Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema was vulnerable to a primary challenge. Sinema later registered as an independent and declined to run for reelection.

This is bad news for Chuck Schumer.

Marine Le Pen was barred from running for political office for five years and given a four-year prison sentence.

CNN reported:

French far-right figurehead Marine Le Pen has been banned from running for political office for five years after being found guilty of embezzling European Union funds, in a politically explosive ruling that has shattered her hopes of winning the presidency in 2027.

A Paris court also handed Le Pen, who was the frontrunner for the next election, a four-year prison sentence with two years suspended, to be served under house arrest, and a €100,000 ($108,000) fine. Le Pen will file an appeal, her lawyer said.

The US economy added 228,000 jobs, far higher than what was expected.

CNN Business reported:

The US economy added a stronger-than-expected 228,000 jobs in March, a significant increase from February’s revised gains of 117,000, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data released Friday.

The unemployment rate ticked higher to 4.2% from 4.1%.

Economists were expecting job growth to slow to 130,000 in March and for the unemployment rate to tick up to 4.2%, according to FactSet.

Trump’s economic policies are working!

China announced more tariffs on American goods in response to Donald Trump’s tariffs.

This would impose another 34% on American goods.

Epoch Times reported:

China announced a raft of additional tariffs and restrictions against American goods on Friday, in retaliation of the sweeping tariffs imposed by the United States.

Beijing said that from April 10, it would impose additional tariffs of 34 percent on all American products.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) also unveiled controls on exports of medium and heavy rare-earths, including samarium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, lutetium, scandium, and yttrium to the United States, effective from Friday.

Trump sent a message to China after the retaliation.

Trump said that China “panicked” and that this was “the one thing they cannot afford to do!”
