IRS Laying Off Over 6K Employees

The IRS is laying off 6,000 employees on Thursday.

The IRS has roughly 100,000 employees overall.

Reuters reported:

The U.S. Internal Revenue Service will lay off about 6,700 employees on Thursday, a person familiar with the matter said, a restructuring that could strain the tax-collecting agency’s resources during the critical tax-filing season.

The workers being cut are probationary employees who have typically been at the agency for less than one to two years, and enjoy fewer protections than longer-term workers. The IRS has a total of roughly 100,000 employees.

The reductions at the IRS come amid a broader slashing of personnel across the federal government at the directive of President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, who is spearheading an unprecedented effort to shrink the bureaucracy.

Like other agencies, the IRS was ordered last week by the Office of Personnel Management, which oversees federal hiring, to dismiss all probationary employees.

But the IRS has taken a more careful approach than most other agencies due to concerns about squeezing resources with the April 15 tax filing deadline just two months away. The IRS remains busy for weeks after the deadline, processing returns and refunds for taxpayers.

It’s unclear whether there will be more layoffs.

Politico reported:

It’s unclear whether there will be additional waves of layoffs, a person familiar with the agency’s plans said.

In a video message to employees at the agency’s Kansas City facility, a union official said an indeterminate number of people there will be let go.

“We received notification today that employees in SB/SE who are on probation are scheduled for termination,” said Shannon Ellis, referring to the agency’s Small Business/Self Employed Division.

In another video message, Ellis said: “Our probationary employees will be removed as of tomorrow — we don’t know what time, we don’t know how it’s going to happen, we don’t even know if it includes all of our probationary employees.

“We don’t know for sure if it is going to impact other than probationary employees,” said Ellis, president of the National Treasury Employees Union, Chapter 66.

Trump Admin Cuts More Waste: Trump’s Energy Department Cuts $124 Million

The Department of Energy has identified and canceled more than $124 million in alleged wasteful spending.

Department of Energy press secretary Ben Dietderich said, “While some of the funds have already been obligated, we expect immediate savings of at least $65 million and more to come in the coming months and years.”

Fox Business reported:

America’s refreshed Department of Energy under President Donald Trump has allegedly found more wasteful spending, as other budget-cutting actions have taken place in various federal agencies.

Department of Energy press secretary and chief spokesperson Ben Dietderich exclusively told Fox News Digital that they have identified and canceled more than $124 million, “from millions of dollars of DEI contracts to ridiculously expensive multi-million-dollar Politico news subscriptions” and other nonessential line items.

“And we are just getting started,” Dietderich said in a statement. “While some of the funds have already been obligated, we expect immediate savings of at least $65 million and more to come in the coming months and years. President Trump and Secretary Wright are fully committed to making government more accountable, efficient, and restoring proper stewardship of the American taxpayer’s dollars.”

“This [is] simply adding nothing of value to the American people,” Secretary Chris Wright said in a Wednesday interview on “Varney & Co.”

“So we’ve cut out some needless expenditures, and we’re doing everything we can to become better stewards of American taxpayer moneys without sacrificing the DOE mission,” he continued. “In fact, we want to expand the DOE mission, but do it all at [a] lower cost and more efficiently. That’s how businesses run.”

McConnell Announcing He’s Not Seeking Re-Election

Mitch McConnell is set to announce he will not seek re-election next year.

McConnell wrote in prepared remarks, “Every day in between I’ve been humbled by the trust they’ve placed in me to do their business here. Representing our commonwealth has been the honor of a lifetime. I will not seek this honor an eighth time. My current term in the Senate will be my last.”

WTOP reported:

Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell is announcing on Thursday that he won’t seek reelection next year, ending a decadeslong tenure as a power broker who championed conservative causes but ultimately ceded ground to the fierce GOP populism of President Donald Trump.

McConnell, the longest-serving Senate party leader in U.S. history, chose his 83rd birthday to share his decision not to run for another term in Kentucky and to retire when his current term ends. He informed The Associated Press of his decision before he was set to address colleagues in a speech on the Senate floor.

His announcement begins the epilogue of a storied career as a master strategist, one in which he helped forge a conservative Supreme Court and steered the Senate through tax cuts, presidential impeachment trials and fierce political fights.

“Seven times, my fellow Kentuckians have sent me to the Senate,” McConnell said in prepared remarks provided in advance to the AP. “Every day in between I’ve been humbled by the trust they’ve placed in me to do their business here. Representing our commonwealth has been the honor of a lifetime. I will not seek this honor an eighth time. My current term in the Senate will be my last.”

Kamala Harris Signs With Hollywood Talent Agency

Kamala Harris is signing with the Hollywood Talent Agency the Creative Artists Agency.

The agency wrote, “CAA will work closely with Harris on her post-White House initiatives, creating strategic opportunities that expand her platform in support of the issues she has championed throughout her decades-long career in public service.”

The Hill reported:

Former Vice President Harris is making one of her first post-2024 White House bid moves, signing with Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

The talent agency will represent Harris “in all areas, focusing on speaking engagements and publishing,” CAA said in a Tuesday statement.

“CAA will work closely with Harris on her post-White House initiatives, creating strategic opportunities that expand her platform in support of the issues she has championed throughout her decades-long career in public service,” the Los Angeles-based company said.

It’s not the first time Harris has turned to CAA — the entertainment firm represented her when she was California’s senator, before becoming vice president.

Joe Biden also signed with the agency.

Fox Business reported:

Harris will join former President Joe Biden, whose CAA deal was announced just two weeks ago. Biden was also represented by the agency before entering the White House.

Announcing Biden’s re-affiliation with the agency on Feb. 3, CAA co-chairman Richard Lovett called him one of “America’s most respected and influential voices in national and global affairs.”

“His lifelong commitment to public service is one of unity, optimism, dignity, and possibility,” Lovett’s statement read. “We are profoundly honored to partner with him again.”

During his partnership with CAA, Biden released his memoir “Promise Me, Dad” in 2017, as well as traveled across the country on his post-vice presidency “American Promise” speaking tour.

“Has Done A Terrible Job” – Trump Calls Out Zelenskyy

Donald Trump called out Volodymyr Zelenskyy amid peace talks.

Trump said, “Zelenskyy talked the United States of America into spending $350 Billion Dollars, to go into a War that couldn’t be won, that never had to start, but a War that he, without the U.S. and “TRUMP,” will never be able to settle.”

Trump also added, “I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his Country is shattered, and MILLIONS have unnecessarily died.”

Truth Social:

Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending $350 Billion Dollars, to go into a War that couldn’t be won, that never had to start, but a War that he, without the U.S. and “TRUMP,” will never be able to settle. The United States has spent $200 Billion Dollars more than Europe, and Europe’s money is guaranteed, while the United States will get nothing back. Why didn’t Sleepy Joe Biden demand Equalization, in that this War is far more important to Europe than it is to us — We have a big, beautiful Ocean as separation. On top of this, Zelenskyy admits that half of the money we sent him is “MISSING.” He refuses to have Elections, is very low in Ukrainian Polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden “like a fiddle.” A Dictator without Elections, Zelenskyy better move fast or he is not going to have a Country left. In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the War with Russia, something all admit only “TRUMP,” and the Trump Administration, can do. Biden never tried, Europe has failed to bring Peace, and Zelenskyy probably wants to keep the “gravy train” going. I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his Country is shattered, and MILLIONS have unnecessarily died – And so it continues…..

Head Of Social Security Administration Quits Job After Clash With DOGE

The acting head of the Social Security administration resigned over the weekend.

According to reports, she had clashed with the Department of Government Efficiency, which was why she quit.

Fox News reported:

The acting head of the Social Security Administration (SSA) quit her job over the weekend after butting heads with the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), over efforts to access certain sensitive government records, according to reports.

The Washington Post reported that three people familiar with Michelle King’s departure said on Monday that she stepped down from her position after the disagreement.

In response to King’s departure, President Donald Trump reportedly appointed Leland Dudek to lead the agency as the president’s nominee to serve as commissioner of the SSA, Frank Bisignano, is vetted by federal lawmakers.

Principal Deputy Press Secretary at the White House, Harrison Fields, said they expect Bisignano to be “swiftly confirmed in the coming weeks.”

“In the meantime, the agency will be led by a career Social Security anti-fraud expert as the acting commissioner,” Fields said without naming the replacement. “President Trump is committed to appointing the best and most qualified individuals who are dedicated to working on behalf of the American people, not to appease the bureaucracy that has failed them for far too long.”

Former US Ambassador To Denmark Expects Trump To Make Deal On Greenland

Former U.S. Ambassador to Denmark Carla Sands thinks Donald Trump can negotiate a deal for the United States to acquire Greenland.

Sands said, “We have our hemisphere, and it is not secure. Denmark can’t afford to defend or develop Greenland, and we love the Greenlanders. They want opportunity, like all people do. They want good-paying jobs. They want to be secure. Denmark can’t do it.”

Sands also added, “I think that President Trump, the writer of “The Art of the Deal,” will get a deal where everyone comes away satisfied.”

Newsmax reported:

Former U.S. Ambassador to Denmark Carla Sands expressed optimism on Newsmax Monday that President Donald Trump would negotiate a deal for the United States to acquire Greenland, calling it a “common sense solution.”

“Well, you know, the Danish are great allies. We love the Danes, and we want them to continue to be great allies,” Sands said. “But the matter of fact is that President Trump is offering a common-sense solution to a really thorny problem.”

“We have our hemisphere, and it is not secure. Denmark can’t afford to defend or develop Greenland, and we love the Greenlanders. They want opportunity, like all people do. They want good-paying jobs. They want to be secure. Denmark can’t do it,” she said.

“And so I hope that talks will start soon that will bring everyone together around the table and come up with a common sense solution. I think that’s the way forward.”

“I think that President Trump, the writer of “The Art of the Deal,” will get a deal where everyone comes away satisfied,” she said.

Greenland has long been viewed as vital to US national security.

Center Square reported:

The United States has long viewed Greenland as vital to our national security. In the early 20th century, it included Greenland among several European possessions in the Western Hemisphere to preemptively seize and fortify in the event of a threatened attack on the U.S. During World War II, the U.S. occupied Greenland to prevent German invasion since Germany had invaded Denmark.

While Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, Greenlandic and Danish authorities have publicly asserted Greenland’s right to self-determination. They stated that Greenland is “not for sale.” Many Greenlanders support independence, and Denmark concurs.

Greenland lies in the shortest route from North America to Europe, making it strategic for the U.S. It is also home to a large American space facility. Recently, there has been increased interest in Greenland for national security and its natural resources, including minerals like uranium.

When Trump returned to office, America expected his foreign policy to focus on China and Russia. Much to their dismay, in his fist news conference on foreign policy, Trump talked about buying the island of Greenland. “Our interest in Greenland is solely to preserve world peace.” – Donald Trump
